History of University of Rajasthan

Prior to the establishment of the University of Rajasthan, all the colleges in the state were affiliated to the Agra University. But the continual efforts of Sir Mirza Ismail, the Prime Minister of Jaipur at that time, bore fruit and the university was established in 1947, becoming the last one to be set up during the pre independence era. University of Rajasthan is located in a sprawling area of over 300 acres, which was generously presented to the university by Sawai Man Singh, the Maharaja of Jaipur state at the time it was established. The university campus presents a glorious sight, lying between the magnificent Moti Doongari Castle on one side and the Jhalana Hills on the other.
